I know! Not another damn staffing company. Not another damn newsletter. And now…not another damn podcast! Maybe one day, I'll dive into something that doesn't have so much noise in a totally saturated market. But…where's the fun in that?!

Y'all, we need to talk about noise. And I don't just mean the endless stream of rocket emojis on LinkedIn or me adding yet another podcast to your already overwhelming feed. (Look, I never claimed to make things easier…just better.)

I get it. Whether you're job hunting or trying to hire, it's exhausting. The amount of BS you have to wade through just to find one good conversation is ridiculous. It shouldn't be this hard to either find a job or find the right person to hire.

But here's where we are.

If you've been following The Rogue (catch up here), you know I've spent the last few newsletters breaking down how candidates can break through the noise. From avoiding the black hole of applications to navigating this wild market shift, we've covered a lot of ground on standing out in your job search.

But today? Let's flip the script.

Let me tell you a quick story that perfectly captures why breaking through noise matters on BOTH sides of hiring.

Here's the thing about hiring right now: everyone's doing the same thing and expecting different results. Last I checked, that's the definition of insanity.

You're writing the same generic job descriptions as everyone else. You're posting them in the same places as everyone else. You're getting the same flood of mismatched applications as everyone else. And then (here's my favorite part) you're blaming HR when quality candidates don't magically appear.

How's that working out for you?

Because here's what I know after helping thousands of people land jobs: If you're doing the industry standard work, you're going to get industry standard results. And right now? The industry standard is a mess of overwhelmed recruiters, frustrated candidates, and hiring managers wondering why they can't find "good talent."

Let me tell you a story that perfectly captures this whole situation.

The other day, I saw a founder looking to hire an engineer for their growing startup. They were hyped, passionate about their product, ready to change the world. But their job post? Same generic template we've all seen a thousand times. You know the one…"seeking rockstar developer," "competitive salary," "fast-paced environment."

Got decent engagement. Lots of likes. Probably felt good to see those notifications roll in.

Here's the kicker though: their company literally makes it super easy to record video conversations and add subtitles to capture key points. You've seen how those videos spread like wildfire on LinkedIn.

So riddle me this: Why wasn't this founder using a video of them and their co-founder talking about their team, their product vision, and the type of person they're looking for? Not only would it break through the noise, but it would also:

  • Show (not tell) their company culture

  • Let the wrong candidates self-select out

  • Demonstrate their own product in action

  • Actually reach the right people

See, here's the thing about noise: whether you're adding to it (sometimes guilty 🙋‍♀️) or trying to break through it, what matters is having something worth saying and saying it in a way that actually connects. Seems like a no-brainer to me to record that conversation, but maybe that’s just because I live & breathe recruitment and talent strategy.

Speaking of breaking through noise...that's exactly why we launched the Go Rogue Podcast. Because if we're going to shake things up, we might as well do it across every medium possible, right?

Wait, did I just share a (hopefully) insightful story in a not so subtle attempt to get you to listen to our new podcast? Yes…yes, I did. <3

Here's to breaking through the noise: in newsletters, in podcasts, and hell yes, in hiring too.
